How we decide what to publish and what to leave out: where facts come from, how we cite rules, and what we do about ratings, reviews and prices.
Everything on this site is written by us. Here is the standard we hold it to.
Facts come from the piece
Measurements, materials and construction details come from the specification of the piece itself. Where a piece does not state a measurement we leave the field blank rather than estimating one. That is why some rows in our tables are shorter than others.
Rules come from documents we read
Where we state a rule, we cite the document, quote it word for word and print the date we read it. The list is on our sources page. We do not paraphrase a regulation and present the paraphrase as the rule.
Ratings and reviews
Star ratings on this site are the ratings customers gave. We count them by product family, so the colour variations of one piece contribute once rather than several times over: the honest total behind our average is 17,686 ratings across 123 families, where adding them up piece by piece would have inflated it. A piece without a rating simply shows none. Customer reviews are quoted word for word, spelling and complaints included, and the selection deliberately includes people we did not satisfy.
Prices
Prices are updated on a schedule and the date sits on one page rather than being repeated everywhere. A piece with no buyable price comes off the shelf until it has one.
